Charity Spin Class at AuraCycle

Snap in your spin shoes and prepare to open your mind (and sweat like crazy).

The journey begins at AuraCycle, the new West Third Street studio opening tomorrow from former pro athlete Maurizio Pelone and business partner Jose Palau.

Begin your ascent with a yogic warm-up before racing an instructor up hills, over jumps, and through sprints on one of two routes to the top: the 45-minute, full-body workout or the 60-minute endurance ride, which uses a console to track performance.

Before Jose Palau and Maurizio Pelone founded the newly launched auracycle studio on West 3rd Street, they were each spinning their proverbial wheels.

"I was working as a trader on Wall Street and wasn't getting any real fulfillment from it," says Palau, 27. "I had been doing indoor-cycling since I was a teenager and always found it to be among the most effective and entertaining ways of getting my cardio in."

So when Pelone,30, a former pro swimmer, model and fitness instructor, approached him last March with the idea of opening up a new type of sophisticated Spinning studio, Palau quit his day job and joined his friend in LA.
